Editorial and AI Policy

The Coffee Encyclopedia (encyclopedia.puertoricocoffeeshop.com) is a free community resource documenting coffee culture, science, producers, and history — with special focus on Puerto Rican coffee heritage. We believe in full transparency about how our content is produced.

How our articles are written

Every article on this encyclopedia goes through a combined AI-human process:

  1. Research. We gather information from public sources: coffee industry publications (SCA, Perfect Daily Grind, Barista Hustle), academic research (UPR Mayagüez, World Coffee Research, CIRAD), producer websites, coffee industry associations (ICO, NCA, SCA), and government sources (USDA Puerto Rico, Departamento de Agricultura).

  2. AI-assisted drafting. We use Claude, an AI assistant developed by Anthropic, to help organize research and draft initial article text.

  3. Human review. Every article is read, fact-checked, and edited by the PuertoRicoCoffeeShop.com editorial team before publication.

  4. Attribution. Where specific sources are used for claims, we link to them. Images are either licensed (with attribution in captions), in the public domain, or original work.

What we do not do

  • We do not publish AI-generated content without human review.
  • We do not fabricate quotes from producers or real people.
  • We do not present AI-generated text as human-written.
  • We do not use AI to create fake personas or misrepresent the site's ownership.

Corrections and feedback

If you find a factual error, a misattributed quote, or any issue with an article, please email system@Encyclopedia.PuertoRicoCoffeeShop.com. We commit to reviewing every report within 7 days and publishing corrections promptly. Significant corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected article with the date.

Our philosophy

The Coffee Encyclopedia exists to share authentic knowledge about coffee — especially Puerto Rican coffee heritage — with the world, for free. AI helps us produce more content, faster, covering more topics than would be possible by a small team working alone. But AI does not replace human judgment, verification, or care. Every article reflects the editorial standards of PuertoRicoCoffeeShop.com, a Puerto Rico-based business dedicated to sharing authentic Boricua coffee heritage with the world.
